We have a fixed term vacancy to support maternity cover within our Occupational Therapy team as an Occupational Therapy assistant


This role in Occupational Therapy forms part of the College’s overall vision to increase the independence of learners.


The service will focus on what people can do, and further build on these skills to enable individuals to be as independent as possible and improve their quality of life.


You will assist learners to develop, maintain and improve their independence via an agreed programme of independence focused activity. Activities will involve activities of daily living, independent travel training, fine motor skills, sensory support, zones of regulation as well as other tasks deemed appropriate to the learner’s personal and EHCP goals and outcomes.


There will be a focus on travel training to improve independence outcomes for learners, for example, into employment, through promotion of their engagement, safety, knowledge, skills and through the completion of the travel training programmes.

 

You will:

  • Assist in the provision of specialist equipment related to increasing independence. 
  • Undertake assessments under the instruction of the Occupational Therapy Team and be willing to contribute information to inform an assessment.
  • Work with the Occupational Therapy Team to run individual and group sessions around independence
  • Act as a clinical resource for promoting independence and motivate individuals to carry out day to day activities as independently as possible.
  • Complete admin related tasks such as updating databases, completing forms and have involvement in audits, quality walks and the reviewing of processes.
  • Promote the principles of personalisation, choice and control and positive risk taking.
  • You will be working across the college environment, FE residential environment, and the wider community
