The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Teacher of the Deaf to join our vibrant Education team here at Portland College.

The successful candidate will be a proficient British Sign Language (BSL) user and will have experience in working with deaf students in an educational setting.

This exciting role will involve developing and delivering tailored lessons to our learners and monitoring learner progress; collaborating effectively with our team of teachers and support staff; and leading on assessments for deaf and hard of hearing learners.

To thrive in this role, you will be an outstanding communicator, with patience, empathy and a positive attitude. You will have a strong commitment to supporting the diverse needs of our learners, and you will be passionate about fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all.

Qualifications needed

Essential

·        Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a recognised qualification as a Teacher of the Deaf.

·        British Sign Language (BSL) at minimum of Level 3.

Desirable

·        British Sign Language (BSL) at Level 5.

·        We may also consider an outstanding teacher, with experience in working with pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), who has recent classroom teaching experience and who is willing to commit to the 2-year mandatory qualification – Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QTOD).

Working Hours

·        37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
