We have an exciting new role at Portland Charity. We are looking for a Land Based Instructor to join our team; somebody with land-based industry experience who can oversee the welfare of our animals and the maintenance of our farm, as well as working with our learners to develop their knowledge and skills within the land-based industry.
Here at Portland Charity, we have a vibrant farm area which includes plant production areas, spacious greenhouses, and a range of lively animals, including donkeys, goats and chickens. The main responsibilities of the role involve a range of horticultural and animal care responsibilities. This will include, for example, leading on horticulture and grounds maintenance; leading on animal welfare documentation and liaising with veterinary professionals and contractors; and playing a key role in ensuring that our farm area is a safe and welcoming place for our learners, staff and visitors.
The Land Based Instructor will work closely with the Land Based team within the Education department to support in delivering small group sessions for our learners who are doing work experience at the college. To be successful in this role, you should have strong land-based and animal care knowledge and skills, and you should also have excellent communication skills, as you will be required to work efficiently with staff from different departments as well as our learners at the college.
As this role will involve regulated activity, we will be required to carry out an Enhanced with Child and Adult Barred Lists DBS check.

· Core hours: 9:00am – 5:00pm.
· There can be flexibility with the working hours which can be discussed at interview, but weekend working is a requirement.
